Annual Skiathon

The Salcha Ski Club SKIATHON is our most important fund raising event and our most challenging athletic activity. To raise money for the club, skiers solicit pledges (either "per-kilometer" or a flat donation) prior to their participation in the SKIATHON. They then ski continuously for two hours at the SKIATHON and collect money based on the distance they ski ("per-kilometer" pledges) or for their participation and completion of the event (the "flat" pledges). When the SKIATHON is over each skier receives a certificate attesting to their completion of the event and showing the distance that they skied.

We use two courses for this event. The J6's and J5's ski our 1.8 km course (Lighted Loop without Fall). The J4's and older ski our 3.75 km course (Sting Loop, Fall Cutoff and the Stadium).

Awards are given to the person who skis the longest distance on each course. SKIATHON awards are also given to the skier who collects the most number of pledges and the skier who collects the most money.

SKIATHON pledges are tax deductible donations to the Salcha Ski Club. We are recognized as a tax exempt organization by the Internal Revenue Service under section 501 (c)(3) of the tax code. Our tax number for this purpose is 92-0058498.
