Host Club of the 2007 CCAK Junior Ski Championships

The Salcha Ski Club has a long history of providing training for young skiers. The club began in 1972 when Darrell Coe, the School’s head teacher, purchased some army surplus skis and introduced the older students to cross country skiing. The club program grew from the need for some kind of physical activity for our students. Several families joined Darrell Coe to design and build the existing trail system.

Today there are actually two skiing programs: Head Coach Renee Kazmierczak, and a dedicated group of volunteers. The after-school program is held in the fall and spring for students who like to learn how to ski. The skiers train three days a week.

The other program involves training and competing in races held in Fairbanks, Salcha and around Alaska. The students ski from October to March, three or more days a week, and keep track of the kilometers they ski each winter for special awards at the end of the season.

Junior High and High School ski members are responsible for helping Mrs. Kazmierczak coach the elementary skiers. These skiers train six days a week and compete all over the state.

You're welcome to use our ski trails but we ask that you please read and follow the ski trail rules. Come on out, the trails are great and join the fun.
